Air transport is a method of travel that has become more
popular over the last few years; cheaper flights to more
destinations means that many airports have needed to expand their
capacity for passengers and also the storage of aeroplanes and
their fuel loads. This has also increased the risk of potential
fire at Airports. |
As well as protection needing to be provided to protect the
terminal buildings and control towers, protecting aircraft hangars
and fuels storage areas is vital. As a result of the types of
hazard present, there are many types of system that need to
operate as part of the overall fire strategy in protecting an
airport. Automatic sprinklers and the associated pumps and water
storage tanks are used to protect to protect public areas in the
terminal building; the public areas such as departure lounges,
baggage halls, duty free shopping, etc,.
Gas extinguishing systems
are used to protect their vital communications rooms and
Foam
systems are used in the hangars to protect the aeroplanes, where
fires that could ignite aviation fuel is a major hazard.

Argus are proud that they were contracted to design, supply and
install the complete sprinkler system for the Eurohub terminal at
Birmingham International Airport. Subsequent extensions and
modifications have been carried out by Argus. The ongoing
servicing and maintenance of the sprinkler system to ensure the
safety to all who use the airport is also carried out by
Argus.
This is another example of the development of true partnerships,
enforcing Argus’ position as the preferred
fire contractor in the
aviation sector. |
 |
But Argus’ expertise is not just confined to the civil aviation
sector. Many of the M.O.D facilities in the UK have systems that
have been installed by Argus. Whether it be the protection of
large warehouse or aircraft hangars on M.O.D site,
Argus’ have
vast experience of supplying fixed fire fighting systems. RAF Lakenheath, RAF Fairford and RAF Mildenhall are just a few of many
high hazard applications that Argus have been involved on a full
turn key basis.
Our expertise and adherence to strict security procedures
involved on such projects has meant that Argus are working closer
with the MOD to become their preferred
fire engineering contractor.
